Whim W'Him | Winter '23
WINTER ‘23 is sure to thrill audiences with a new voice and much-anticipated returns.
As always, Whim W’Him commits to the best in new creations of contemporary dance with this program. Audiences will enjoy the Seattle premiere of multi-disciplinary artist Mike Esperanza.An acclaimed creator based in New York, Esperanza founded BARE Dance Company in 2005.
Whim audiences will also welcome back a fan favorite. Prolific international choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa returns for her 5th creation for the company.
Completing the program is a dynamic new work by Founder and Artistic Director Olivier Wevers.
We are thrilled that once again this show is coming to our Island. You wont want to miss this show.

Jovino Santos Neto Trio
A master pianist, composer, arranger, flutist, and player of a multitude of other instruments, including the melodica and the accordion, Jovino Santos Neto is one of the top Brazilian musicians working today. Currently based in Seattle, Washington, he has, throughout his career, been closely affiliated with the Brazilian master Hermeto Pascoal. He was an integral part of Pascoal’s group from 1977-1992, when he fine-tuned his artistry and co-produced several legendary records. His relationship with Hermeto continues as his mentor figures prominently in his recent recordings. Jovino is a three-time Latin Grammy nominee (2004, 2006, and 2009). He has had his compositions performed by many ensembles, big bands, and orchestras worldwide.

Best of Seattle International Comedy Competition
LIVE STAND-UP COMEDY! Featuring Kermet Apio!
Vashon Theatre and The Seattle International Comedy Competition are joining forces to bring more great stand-up to Vashon Island!
Kermet Apio: Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Kermet Apio enjoyed a childhood in paradise. He spent his time watching television, playing, and procrastinating on everything else. To this day, he still does all three extensively.
He was the winner of the 2009 Great American Comedy Festival and has had numerous appearances on television and radio. He has showcased at comedy festivals in Aspen, Las Vegas, and Vancouver and has performed in 47 states and 3 Canadian provinces. He is a past winner of the Seattle Comedy Competition and was a semi-finalist in the San Francisco Comedy Competition. Also, in 1988 he was Dishwasher of the Month at the Sea-Tac Airport Denny’s.

“I absolutely loved my stay at the Lodges on Vashon. The lodges are modern and surrounded by nature. It was quiet and relaxing. I loved eating every meal by the windows and watching the sunset. My lodge even had a shower with an open air patio and the floors were heated! They really thought of everything. Not only were the lodges super cute but the decor around the property was immaculate, there’s a picture worthy spot at every corner. My favorite were the DOMES! They have two different fully furnished domes have everything you need from wifi, electricity, to a heater and air filter. They even light up at night! This was such a nice little getaway and I had a really special experience!”
